Feng Shui Tips For Productive Workspace

With so many employees permanently working from home these days, it made me wonder if there’s a way to enhance productivity while working at home? My friend, who dabbles in interior design suggested Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese belief that the way objects are arranged in the home affects your success, health and happiness.

I did some research and found an interesting article that I’ll reference from Better Homes & Gardens, https://www.bhg.com/rooms/home-office/makeovers/feng-shui-office-design-tipsIt points out “the way workspace is designed can have an impact on productivity, either helping you stay focused or providing distractions and interruptions.” By applying the principles of Feng Shui you can create a calm, productive work environment filled with positive energy that carries over into the rest of your life.  Here are a few of the five Feng Shui tips for productive workspace:

Declutter Your Office:  Clean your desk, drawers, walls, floor and computer files too. When you throw away excess and unnecessary items from your workspace, it eliminates clutter and creates a calmer atmosphere. If your office does not have a lot of clutter, you will focus on the task at hand instead of the mess surrounding you.

Bring Nature Into The Office:  Introduce plants or photos of nature into your work space. Nature serves as a reminder to breathe and take a step back from the stress. Looking out a window can also be beneficial when you feel stress. It reminds you to breathe.

Change The Layout: “The key to a Feng Shui office layout is placing your desk in the command position. When sitting at your desk, you should be able to see the door without being directly in line with it. You want to be able to see what is coming your way. The ideal desk placement is in the center of the room, which allows energy to flow all around you, but if that’s not feasible, at least ensure your back is not facing the door.”

Add A Fountain:  In terms of Feng Shui, water can bring a sense a calm and flow to the work place. A miniature fountain near your desk can, therefore, enhance this feeling of calm and productivity.

Check out the remaining three step in the Better Homes & Garden article and apply these Feng Shui tips to your office space. These principles can help you to have a more balanced work space.
